About the Course
The Government of Pondicherry granted approval to introduce B.Sc Psychology from the academic year 2019-20 onwards, which is a significant milestone in the history of the college.
Psychology is a career oriented applied science course, where the students get theoretical knowledge and practical training in understanding the human mind and behavior.
Psychology is gaining recognition as a “STEM” (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) discipline. Students will be exposed to a range of fields of psychology and practical skills during their course of study. Students will be given choices to opt for an elective course for the specific domain as per the guidelines of the CBCS.
On completion of their under-graduation, students can continue M.Sc. Psychology specializing in Clinical Psychology, Industrial-Organisational Psychology, Health Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, and others followed by a Ph.D. in the discipline. A graduate can work as a Counselling Psychologist, Neuropsychologist, Health Educator, Public Statistician, Research Psychologist, Rehabilitation Psychologist, Developmentalist, Therapist in various government organizations, non-profit organizations, self-employment, industries, advertising, rehabilitation or psychiatric services, child care services, counselling and therapeutic services.
Programme Specific Outcome
The syllabi for B.Sc. Psychology based on the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is designed in such a manner so as to encourage students with aptitude, interest and skills to join graduate programs in Psychology and to build up a work force of competent psychologists within public reach.
This system will provide an opportunity for the students to design a curriculum to suit their individual needs, to have mobility across related disciplines and institutions in both horizontally and vertically. The syllabus provides space for students from other disciplines to explore selected courses which will enable them to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.
On completion of B.Sc. Psychology, the students will be able to:
- analyse the foundations of psychology
- understand the biological bases of behavior, thinking and emotions
- gain an overview knowledge on different fields of psychology, such as, social, developmental, counselling, clinical, industrial, school, health, cognitive, etc.
- get hands on training on psychological tests and experiments
- develop skills, such as, life skills, stress management, etc.
