Kasthurba College for Women, the erstwhile Villianur College for Women, was established in the year 2005 under the aegis of the Pondicherry Society for Higher Education which is wholly funded by the Government of Puducherry, to cater to the higher educational needs of the women students hailing from rural backgrounds. As the region of Pondicherry previously had only one exclusive college for women, that too in the centre of the town, it was very difficult for students hailing from rural areas around Villianur to reach the portals of higher education even after scoring well in the higher secondary examination. As it has ever been the vision of the Government of Puducherry to provide quality higher education to all aspiring women students irrespective of their socio economic backgrounds, this college was established with two need-based and society-based departments, namely, B.A. Social Work and B.A. History. Ever since its inception, with the assistance of a dedicated band of highly qualified faculty members, the vision of the Government of Puducherry is being fulfilled as our students excel in various activities across the nation. A number of passed out students are well employed in various Government and Non-Governmental organizations across the U.T. of Puducherry and the state of Tamil Nadu. The college introduced the CBCS pattern from the year 2017-2019. B.Sc. Psychology has been introduced from the academic year (2019-20) onwards.
